PADI - Advanced Open Water Course

The PADI 5* Advanced Open Water Diver course builds onto your fundamental dive skills learnt during your Open Water Course. Introducing you to new depths, perfecting your buoyancy, and refining your navigation: this course is a fun, knowledgeable course designed for any level of experienced Open Water Diver!

What will you learn on your Advanced Course?

You will compete 5 adventure dives with your instructor, based on specific underwater environments and activities.

• Deep Diver

• Wreck Diver

Things to know before booking:

-You must already be qualified as an Open Water Diver (or qualifying certification from another training agency) and over 15 years old.

-You’ll need your own SMB, reel, cutting tool and compass. It is also recommended to have your own dive computer (though if you use our hire gear, one is supplied).

-A completed Medical Form is mandatory: if any of the answers on the form are ‘YES’, you are required to take it to your doctor for their sign-off.

We have two options of course schedules available:

Schedule 1:

Monday 9:00am - 12:00pm – Orientation

Tuesday 9:00am – 5:00pm – Shore Dives*

Wednesday 9:00am – 5:00pm – Boat Dives*

Schedule 2:

Friday 6:00pm – 9:00pm – Orientation

Saturday 9:00am – 5:00pm – Shore Dives*

Sunday 9:00am – 5:00pm – Boat Dives*

What to expect on your Advanced Open Water Course:

Schedule:

As you can see, we have two course programs to pick from! The breakdown is:

Online Learning- this takes up to 1 hour for each Adventure Dive and must be completed prior to your Orientation. You will only need to complete the e-learning for 4 Adventure Dives: you will complete Delayed Surface Maker Buoy theory instore at your Orientation. The great thing about PADI e-Learning is that it can be done in your own schedule, at your own pace! No sitting in a classroom for two whole days learning theory: you can do it at home, the beach, wherever and whenever suits!

Orientation- this is where you’ll meet your Adelaide Scuba Instructor, plus your fellow students. You’ll review what you learnt via e-Learning, talk about your course structure, and will learn how to assemble and engage your Delayed Surface Maker Buoy.

Shore Dives- your class will spend a day in the ocean at Port Noarlunga. You’ll conduct 3 Adventure Dives, completing your Perfect Buoyancy, Navigation, and Delayed Surface Maker Buoy dives in the shelter of Port Noarlunga reef. 

Boat Dives- On the second day you will dive from one of our boats, completing Deep Diver and Wreck dives. Both our dive boats have showers, toilets, snacks and shelter: so you dive in comfort! 

Certification- Once you’ve completed all your Adventure dives and passed your skill requirements, you will be certified as an Advanced Open Water Diver! You’ll receive an E-Card via PADI’s app, which you can take anywhere in the world with you.

What makes Adelaide Scuba different:

HIRE Gear:

For the duration of the course you’ll have access to warm 7mm wetsuits, boots, fins, regulator, BCD, weights and tanks. 

Small Class Numbers:

We have a 4:1 ratio, with 4 students to 1 instructor, or 6:2 with 6 students to an instructor, plus an Assistant Instructor or Dive Master. This means everyone gets focused attention and you get more time with a Dive Professional.

The Team:

The Adelaide Scuba squad is a diverse team, coming from many backgrounds and different languages. We pride ourselves on professional, thorough training, and go beyond standards to ensure you leave any course confident and excited about diving! 

Dive BOATS:

Adelaide Scuba has 3 boats on site, each launch from Glenelg North to all the amazing dive sites off Adelaide’s coast! Learning how to conduct yourself on a boat dive, and what to expect, is a great experience and gives you skills that can be used all around the globe. We conduct boat dives as STANDARD for all Open Water Courses.

PRIVATE dive pool:

We have a private heated dive pool instore, meaning no travelling to different facilities to conduct the pool section of your course! Having a private pool guarantees there is no lane-sharing or distractions from other patrons. Plus, being heated it is comfortable every season!
